Gentlemen, welcome. Welcome. Here. You guys are here with Lonnie priest, Kylie Walker. We are called the den dwellers. We are see you Cougars uncaged, and we are so thankful you guys are here that you have decided to spend some time listening to this awesome, crazy, unique, wild podcast where we're gonna get to know some people, some Cleary cougars. Today, we are pumped, jacked, stoked and excited and everything else that we have. Jacob and Ryan here with us today on the show. Gentlemen, how are you doing today?
Ryan Ching 0:46
Doing great. It's a pleasure to be here. I'm excited. I'm excited to see how this is gonna
Lonnie Preis 0:51
go, first time in this space,
Jacob Chouinard 0:52
right? Yeah, yeah, yeah. Pretty new. Pretty nice looking. It's kind of unreal.
Lonnie Preis 0:57
Pretty cool. It's a new New Horizon, new adventure. Kylie, Are you pumped to hear here learn a little bit more about these young men?
Kylie Walker 1:04
You know, they show up to everything. They might as well show up to the first podcast.
Lonnie Preis 1:09
Absolutely, absolutely they have just so our audience knows they have no clue what questions are going to be asked. No, no for forewarning. One question was asked, which is, what? What's a topic that they'd like to talk about, which we'll get into in a minute. So let's get to know you gentlemen. This is not about us. This is about you. Here you go. Tell us a little about yourself. We'll go. Whoever wants to talk first. But what year are you here? This is some basic stuff. What year are you here? What is your major? And then the third question, your favorite exact spot on this campus, in that order.
Jacob Chouinard 1:40
All right, so I'm Jacob Chouinard. I am a sophomore here at Clear University, and I'm studying sports management and marketing, so I don't That's a tough question. Favorite spot on campus, probably my bed. Probably my bed.
Lonnie Preis 1:58
Okay, and here's just a little, just a little rule we have here, since there's two of you, whatever he answers, you cannot say the same thing. You can say, you can't say, Oh, my bad, too, if you have the same major. Yes, but Okay, how about you those three questions.
Ryan Ching 2:09
So I'm Ryan Ching. I'm a sophomore here. I'm studying sports management and promotion. I think my favorite place here would my favorite place here would have to be probably the lake trust stadium. I just, I love being out there. I love watching sports.
Lonnie Preis 2:23
Okay, do you have a specific spot at Lake trust? Do you have a specific seat you like like to be at, or second base or home?
Ryan Ching 2:30
You know, it's first base side all the way up to the very top, probably about two, two spots in there. Every, every time for softball,
Lonnie Preis 2:41
I love the specific, specificness of that answer. I don't know if that's a word or not. Okay, great. All right, speaking of sports, so I'll just do this little plug. Kylie, October 11, Ro Cougs is rolling in for homecoming that day. It's going to be packed. T shirts are made with ro Cougs and the busses on it, which is, if you haven't been around clearing the new bus, awesome. I know these guys can't wait to roll, you know, roll into a tournament with that bad boy and
Kylie Walker 3:07
that these guys are ready to ride the mechanical bull.
Lonnie Preis 3:11
Oh yeah. Oh yeah. Sign me up. Speaking of that mechanical bull, we have a little kind of adult section, but we got a mechanical bull. We got legitimate, real AX throwing going on. We've got a Velcro wall. Is that the thing where you run and jump and kind of splatter and velcro wall. This year, we got a rock climbing wall. We got little kit. We have carnival games too, which I think you guys will enjoy, like, you know, the dig in the sandbox to see if you win a prize. Flip over the little rubber ducky, and see if,
Ryan Ching 3:41
okay, I think I'd rather do that than to ride the mechanical bull.
Lonnie Preis 3:45
Yeah, absolutely. There's going to be a lot of, I think, bribery and coercement to get people on that bowl, but, but you two, without a doubt, I'll
Ryan Ching 3:55
be on it at some point, maybe once or twice.
Lonnie Preis 3:58
Absolutely, Okay, excellent. Last question. Wait, oh yeah,
Kylie Walker 4:02
I bet you guys can't last three seconds on the mechanical bull bet.
Lonnie Preis 4:08
Okay, we have a bet. We're not betting money here, but outside bet, we'll figure out what's being bet later. I love it. Put the challenge out there. Like that challenge with our Yes. Absolutely. Last question about Cleary before we get into some fun, unique stuff, what's the thing you love the most? Try and be specific. What do you love most about being here as a student, student athlete here at Cleary,
Jacob Chouinard 4:32
I think I'd have to say, probably the flexibility within schedules and classes like the way the teachers can understand where you're coming from as an athlete, because some of the teachers here have been athletes before in college or at Cleary, so it's nice to know that they've been there a time or two, and they can understand what you're
Ryan Ching 4:51
going through. Great Love it. Honestly, I just like how every team will come together to be one like everybody will. Go to the sports games and watch everybody play like everybody will be there for everybody, no matter what the circumstances. It's probably my favorite thing, honestly, yeah,
Lonnie Preis 5:09
and it happens. It a lot, but at small schools, we have so many athletes, but there is a high percentage. And what's interesting about that is you guys, as you know, I mean, you're so busy, yeah, you know, and everybody's so busy, and they got to practice at different times, a lot of times. A lot of times. But somehow, I mean, it's not everyone, but somehow, someway, there is always a large support at each other's events, which is cool. Okay, first segment today is roll with it. Okay, we're gonna roll with this a little bit, which is kind of funny. Roll Cougs. These guys are bowlers rolling the ball down the alley. And I asked, go, go figure. I asked them, What topic do they want to talk about bowling? All right, this is gonna be a little unique. So bowling. Here's a question, thinking of bowling, okay? And you don't both have to answer this. We'll kind of go one whoever jumps in thinking you can go back and forth thinking of bowling. Okay, what's your favorite smell, or least favorite smell at the bowling alley,
Ryan Ching 6:02
probably my bowling ball. Yeah, some of some of my bowling balls have like sense to them.
Lonnie Preis 6:08
They have, they have certain scents, excellent. Speaking of scents, you mentioned sense. Speaking of sense, what's your favorite scent? You know, as far as you know, candles, whatever, what? What kind of scent Do you like the most? I like
Jacob Chouinard 6:19
like a, like a foresty type smell. Can't think of it right now, but me and my roommate bought this candle warmer, and I forgot what the name of the candle is.
Lonnie Preis 6:27
But all right, forest scent. Remember that if you want to, if we maybe that's what you guys wager is a little candle, you know, little forest scented candy go. Speaking of the forest makes me think of camping. So camping? Are you a camper? Maybe you're not a camper, but if you were to camp, where would you want to go? Want to go?
Ryan Ching 6:43
Camping? Florida, Florida, down in Disney again, Florida. Oh, I would, for sure, do that again. We went, I went to Disney this summer. We camped down there, one of the resorts. Best time of my life, nine days. I would do it over and over again.
Lonnie Preis 6:57
Love it. So you mentioned Disney. Speaking of Disney, I'm thinking rides. What about rides? Like, what's your favorite Disney? Have you? Have you been to Disney? Okay, great. What? What have you heard about Disney? What's the thing you've heard about Disney that you'd love to go see?
Ryan Ching 7:11
I heard like,
Jacob Chouinard 7:13
I think it's the water rides. Oh, yeah. I'm a big fan of, like, water slides and stuff, so I think I'd love the water rides there.
Lonnie Preis 7:19
Love it. Speaking of water fishing, I mean, what's your favorite fish? I mean, like
Ryan Ching 7:26
to catch her to fish for, let's say to fish for, probably largemouth bass,
Lonnie Preis 7:30
large mouth bass, excellent. Speaking of bass, what's your kind? What's your favorite type of making fish? Do you like it fried? You like a grit? You know? How do you like to cook your probably
Jacob Chouinard 7:40
just fried keeping it simple, keeping it a little unhealthy, but good at the same
Lonnie Preis 7:44
time, awesome. Speaking of fried foods, what's your favorite fried food? Fried rice. Fried Rice. Awesome. Okay, that's our role with you kind of see, we went from Bowling to rice. We don't want to spend too much time, because we could spend the whole podcast. So great job. Thanks for bringing up bowling. We got we learned a lot about bowling, not really, but we learned a lot about just some random, random thoughts. Okay, next segment, probably my favorite. This is called behind the curtain. Okay, okay, behind the curtain. Should I do to the voice we taught behind the curtain with Jacob and Ryan?
Jacob Chouinard 8:16
Thank you for this opportunity to be behind the curtains.
Lonnie Preis 8:19
Yes, since we're talking like this, we're going to do the whole this. We're going to do this whole segment in this in this tone. Is that okay with you? Kylie, okay, we're gonna talk about so
Kylie Walker 8:31
make sure you're close enough.
Lonnie Preis 8:34
We're close. I can almost taste the microphone. Okay? I gotta be careful not to whisper, because I'm tended. I kind of want to whisper, but I won't. It sounds like I'm whispering. Okay, here we go. This is a chance to get to know you guys a little bit more, and you both have to answer this question. Here's the first question, if you could meet anyone on this planet you have never met before, who would it be? You have to tell us. Why. Just who would it be?
Jacob Chouinard 9:06
Probably, I'm gonna go with, probably Justin Bieber.
Lonnie Preis 9:11
Bieber, okay, Justin Bieber, okay, Ryan,
Ryan Ching 9:16
I think I would have to pick
Unknown Speaker 9:19
probably Chris Brown.
Lonnie Preis 9:21
Chris Brown. Okay, so, so Justin and Chris walk in the door and they they walk in the store right now. Okay, what's the first Yeah, they're not really what's the first question you would ask them?
Speaker 1 9:40
Probably just not asking, probably how much money they have.
Lonnie Preis 9:44
Okay, you'd ask Brea how much money he really is, because there's a lot of talk out there. Wow. Okay, what would you ask Chris? How did he get so good at singing? Okay, that's all right. So now you have some you have some time to spend with them. You cannot. Do with them what they're famous for. You can't ask them, hey, teach me how to sing and dance and all that. What you got a couple hours ago, hang? What would you go? What would you guys would go do with them, respectively, go
Unknown Speaker 10:10
to a go kart track.
Lonnie Preis 10:13
To what car track? Interesting?
Speaker 1 10:21
I think I'd take him bowling just so he could, he could admire my
Lonnie Preis 10:24
sport so you could get him in awe. Yeah, yeah. I thought you might say that. I thought, okay, little more serious note, on a little more personal level, who's the person from your past who has impacted you the most in your
Jacob Chouinard 10:41
life. I think I'm gonna go with myself,
Lonnie Preis 10:45
somebody beside yourself,
Jacob Chouinard 10:48
probably from my past. Yes, probably just, probably just my mom.
Lonnie Preis 10:56
Okay, you're not good. I'll ask you a follow up here. But your mom and how about you?
Unknown Speaker 10:59
I'd have to say, my dad. Okay,
Lonnie Preis 11:03
my next question, you can share what you're comfortable sharing, but how did they How did they impact you? In what way like do you do they impact you? Obviously, parents are gonna impact you in a lot of ways, but can you think of something specific like that they really did for you?
Jacob Chouinard 11:19
It's kind of not like one thing that they did in specific. It's things that they've done that just repeat themselves. She's just been very courageous and very outgoing as a human and so she's kind of taught me to just not give up simple love it. I have
Unknown Speaker 11:37
to say, like,
Lonnie Preis 11:40
are you whispering right now? No, okay, that's very impressive.
Ryan Ching 11:48
I have to say how he kept pushing me, like just repeatedly telling me not to stop. To keep pushing for what I want to strive
Lonnie Preis 11:55
for nice. My last question about them, and this last question of the behind the curtain curtain segment is if you could say one thing to them, because you know you're going to let them know when this thing is broadcast, and you know they're going to be watching this. What's one thing you can look in the camera? What's one thing you would say to your mom, your dad, right now?
Speaker 1 12:15
Which camera Am I looking at? Nope, nope, nope.
Lonnie Preis 12:19
I don't know if it matters,
Speaker 2 12:24
Mom, I made it. I'm here. Let's do it
Unknown Speaker 12:31
nice, love it.
Ryan Ching 12:35
I miss you. Hope you're doing good, good things up there. Just hoping to make you really proud right now.
Lonnie Preis 12:44
Love it. Thanks for sharing
Lonnie Preis 12:45
that. Okay, now we can talk very, oh my gosh, that is hard. Let's never do that again. Oh, okay, I just had to yell off screen. Here we go. Next segment. That's very awesome. You guys, what you just shared honestly, if we're, if we're gonna have two viewers of this, it's going to be their parents, and that's all we need. Okay, rapid fire. Rapid Fire segment. Now, I want this to be quick, gentlemen. I don't want this like dilly dallying, thinking around. All right. This is rapid fire questions. Ready for this back and forth. Here we go. This is, we kind of stole this off of, like a late night show where it's kind of like, get to know your person. All right. There's some serious questions whenever there's about 10 here. So here we go. We'll go back and we'll go back and forth. You start, Jacob, back to you, then we'll start with you. Back and forth. You guys figured out. Here we go. Favorite sandwich,
Ryan Ching 13:29
ham sandwich, tuna sandwich. Ham and
Lonnie Preis 13:32
tuna. Love it. If you could only watch one TV show for the rest of your life,
Speaker 3 13:38
what would it be? Spy Kids? Yellowstone.
Lonnie Preis 13:41
Interesting, interesting. Sum this up into like a phrase, advice for freshmen coming into college, advice for freshmen,
Ryan Ching 13:50
shower, homework. I
Lonnie Preis 13:52
love it. These are great the great balance here animal you are most scared of
Ryan Ching 13:58
snakes, gorillas. Have you ever
Lonnie Preis 14:00
seen a gorilla? Sorry, I had to ask. I've been at the zoo. Oh, the zoo not, obviously, not in person. Okay, best way to top a hot dog?
Ryan Ching 14:08
Ketchup. Ketchup. I mean, I
Lonnie Preis 14:12
only don't ask for ketchup in Chicago. I'll tell you that they will snap on you. It's like mustard only at a lot of those places anyway. Oh, yeah, okay. Coming back to you, what do you do? What's one thing? One word? What do you do in your free time? Homework, eat, love it. And this one too. If you have this, well, no, I like the thing. Switch up the answers. That'll make you think on your feet. If you could do one thing over from your past, what would it be? It could be past. Could be yesterday. It could be 1010, years ago,
Jacob Chouinard 14:40
probably turning my assignments on time freshman year.
Lonnie Preis 14:43
Very nice.
Ryan Ching 14:46
Baseball. What was it? Baseball?
Lonnie Preis 14:49
Oh, would you do it or not? I would do it. You would do it instead. Okay, going back to you the quirkiest thing, if somebody had to say, and maybe never thought of yourself as being quirky. But what is the quirkiest thing about you? You.
Ryan Ching 15:02
I've been called the kid, from up, from up, yep, from the up, no, I'm like the movie, oh, from the movie. Yep, got it. I've been told I look like him sometimes, okay, quirky,
Jacob Chouinard 15:16
probably just the way I laugh.
Lonnie Preis 15:20
Good, year laugh. We wanted to hear it. That's a and honestly, that's another goal we have. Our goal is to get two viewers, which is why we asked the one question, Who do you want to talk to so they'll at least watch. The other goal is to make people laugh at least once during this podcast. And I think we're doing that. Okay, this is my favorite question of rapid fire, the weirdest thing you've ever eaten
Jacob Chouinard 15:41
chocolate covered ants for are you making that up? Right? No, we did it at a campground. I got two bucks from
Kylie Walker 15:49
it. Why would you do that? Only $2
Lonnie Preis 15:51
talking about dollars to get paid. Don't matter. You eat it. How about you dirt? Straight up. Dirt, straight dirt. How was it you?
Ryan Ching 16:00
It was pretty moist. I'm not gonna lie, like it really wasn't bad. It was
Lonnie Preis 16:05
yesterday. Was like, dry? Wasn't like a saltine cracker. Yesterday? Was that
Ryan Ching 16:10
yesterday? No, it wasn't yesterday, but it's during your college before, actually.
Lonnie Preis 16:14
Okay, going back to you biggest pet peeve
Ryan Ching 16:18
when people don't hold the door for each other.
Jacob Chouinard 16:20
Oh, chewing with your mouth open.
Lonnie Preis 16:23
Oh, all right. Last question of rapid fire, describe yourself in only three words,
Jacob Chouinard 16:36
funny, athletic and caring.
Ryan Ching 16:42
Well, you took one of mine, loving, passionate, forgetful, forgetful,
Lonnie Preis 16:51
forgetful, yeah, okay, I thought, I thought was gonna be forgiving. You're forgiving.
Ryan Ching 16:55
Too forgiving. Okay, I guess we could change those two words up.
Lonnie Preis 16:58
Okay, just so you know, you're the first student guest on the podcast. So thank you so much for participating in rapid fire. Pretty, pretty easy, pretty painless. Okay, excellent. We have one more segment for you. It's called showtime. It's a new it's a new segment. Well, you're only the second podcast. So this is this, this is the new segment. Kind of a, kind of a contest. You get to show what you know for the audience. Okay, okay, don't know that much. So who would like whoever answers this question is going to dictate where this game goes. Oh, boy. So who would like to answer the question you got in?
Ryan Ching 17:34
Oh, me, hey. Well, rock paper scissors. Okay,
Lonnie Preis 17:38
all right, you get I'm going to you okay if fill in the fill in this phrase, and then I'll take this and we'll make this game, you know the most about
Ryan Ching 17:48
what baseball? Oh, it's
Lonnie Preis 17:52
gonna work. Well, Kylie, this is gonna work. So here's the game. You probably play similar games like this. This is called, this is called, show what you know what you're going to do, gentlemen, since you asked the question, you have to go first. We are going to go with Major League Baseball teams. Here we go. You're going to go bang, bang, bang, bang. Professional teams. First person to have a we'll give them a. This is going to be quick, a three second delay or repeats it, which we got to be on. Our colleague help me out here loses. Okay, the winner gets a forest scented candle at some point when we, when we get our prize together, or, or, or for scented senti for the car, or, or just some grass we get from the woods, and it'll smell like Forest. Okay, show us what you know On your mark. And, oh, sorry, Kylie, what do you think back there in the den? Are we gonna have them say the I think we should need to have them say that the city with the
Kylie Walker 18:51
mascot? Yes, the mascot, the mascot,
Lonnie Preis 18:56
the team name, I'm sorry, the city with the team. I don't even know
Kylie Walker 19:01
the city with the
Lonnie Preis 19:03
team name. City team name. You can't just throw out tigers. You got to say the actual All right, three seconds, I'll try and do that. You kind of help me catch up. They repeat.
Lonnie Preis 19:15
Show us what you know. Jacob, again,
Ryan Ching 19:18
Detroit Tigers, Cleveland and Los Angeles, dodgers, Cleveland, guardians, Seattle, mariners,
Lonnie Preis 19:30
no. Oh, you think you think it's easier than it is, but it's not. Congratulations, winner, make sure you get him that four scented candle. You thought we were gonna get it. No, you get him a four scented ascended camp.
Jacob Chouinard 19:43
The issue was I had the mariners locked in my brain, and he fired it up, and I had nothing going out.
Lonnie Preis 19:47
And were you about to say Cleveland Indians? Because that's when I grew up. I grew up watching the
Ryan Ching 19:52
Indians. I was gonna say guardians.
Lonnie Preis 19:55
That's it's hard. I mean, sometimes I've seen I've done this before, and if people it's hard. I mean, so thank you guys so much for playing this game. We're going to keep it going, and, you know, with future podcasts. So finally, the moment, everyone has been waiting for our trivia challenge, because we know for our audience, which is like spans the globe, coast to coast, everybody who is listening. By the way, if you have a comment, a thing you'd like us to do a little a little game segment, whatever you want go to student life at Cleary, C, L, E, A, R, y.edu, student life@cleary.edu which is also where you are going to submit your answer to this trivia question with which these young men have are going to provide for you. So listen closely. Okay, these guys cannot answer it. We will let bowler, if you're a bowler out there, absolutely answer it, but the first one who hits this email is going to get this prize. So who would like to articulate this question for our audience? You got,
Ryan Ching 20:59
here's, here's the question. The question is, what is four strikes in a row called in in bowling?
Lonnie Preis 21:08
In bowling, because there are no force Well, four strikes in baseball. No, we're talking four strikes in bowling. Four strikes in baseball, and you're out out, you're out out, packing up. Yes, four strikes in bowling. Because obviously a lot of us know, you know, Turkey is three, double is just two. Is a double, he's two, just the double. Obviously, these guys knew this trivia question because they bowl, and they've actually experienced this where this has never happened for me, or probably most of us. So tremendous question, four strikes in a row, everyone. What do you call it in the game of bowling student life@cleary.edu gentlemen, first ever students from Cleary on this podcast. This is going to reach far, far beyond cleary's campus. We will see. Thank you so much for being here. Any last words you'd like to share with the audience for being here today?
Jacob Chouinard 22:00
Just keep going, have fun and never give up.
Ryan Ching 22:04
You guys, better tune in. That's all I got to say. I'm excited to be here. I'm excited to hopefully come back at least one more time.
Lonnie Preis 22:12
Okay, love it. Kylie words from the den. Any last words?
Kylie Walker 22:19
Roll. Cougs. Roll. Oh, we're gonna,
Lonnie Preis 22:21
we're gonna roll it. We're gonna roll coos. This is how we're gonna end the segment in a minute here. But this has been special, exciting, exhilarating, emotional, you guys. I just appreciate you just being willing to randomly pop off these answers to questions, not knowing what to expect. So we're gonna drop, we're drum roll, like we did in the beginning. But then we're gonna, we're gonna go 123, we're gonna yell out. We gotta win. There it is. Here we go. Let's get thank you all for being here.
