Hey,

Lonnie Preis  0:05
ladies and gentlemen, we are back with rooters on cage with the den dweller, Kylie Walker, Lonnie preaches here and our special guest, zay Bailey and Brian Eberhardt, welcome to today. Thanks for being here.

Lonnie Preis  0:21
All right. All right. You guys got a game today, right? Yeah, later on. I mean, this is going to air later on, but this is good warm up. Get you guys dialed in mentally. How do you feel about this being here right now? You little feel like,

Unknown Speaker  0:32
feel excited, yeah,

Unknown Speaker  0:34
kind of my first time doing something like this podcast.

Lonnie Preis  0:37
All right. All right. Who knows, you guys might go in and start doing your own podcast and go up. We have 1000s, if not millions, of viewers, right? Kylie, we've been tracking this,

Kylie Walker  0:46
yeah, a whole probably million trillion

Lonnie Preis  0:49
viewers, minus a couple million trillion, but we got a lot. Okay, so this is great, great to have you guys. This is really about you guys being here. We want to learn more about you for the audience. We got a fun segments to do that, and then we also got some serious ones. So first of all, we want to hear a little bit about you. So Za, start with you. What What year are you? What are you studying? Obviously, we know you play basketball. We talk about basketball game. But and then what brought you, what brought you to Cleary? So start with those questions.

Isaiah Bailey  1:17
I'm a junior studying project management, and what Brett Cleary was just being back home and want to play basketball still and get education because I was playing in Alabama. Oh, wow, yeah. So home is not at home. Is here home? Lansing, yes. Okay, so what Alabama? Wow. What do you miss about Alabama? The weather, the weather, it's about to get real. Okay, all right, good. Brian, how about you?

Brian Everhart  1:42
I'm good. How are you? I'm a sophomore. I'm actually a transfer student from Henry Ford Community College, and I'm studying digital marketing. I'm hoping to get my Master's an MBA. Oh, nice. The reason I came to Cleary was I was originally committed to Concordia University in Ann Arbor, and then everything that went on with the athletic department, and you know how they were shutting down athletics. I went. I ended up going to community college and Henry Ford. And then after the year, I was thinking about staying, but I decided to be better for me, you know, to get out and go play. And so Coach Thomas reached out to me. He actually saw me play in Danville, Illinois, which is where they held the community college nationals. And he reached out to me right after. And originally, I told myself that just because, from my experience last year wasn't the best, I said that I wasn't going to be done playing basketball, and I didn't want to do it anymore, and I wanted to focus on school and myself and my future. And then coach Thomas reached out, and he gave the best message to me. And you know, that kind of just led me into wanting to keep playing nice.

Lonnie Preis  2:43
Nice. I love it. I love to hear that. Going back to you, did you mention what you're studying? Or what do you project manage? Project management. I just got to ask this. We have a not asked other people, but I'll put you guys on the spot. Dream job, besides NBA player, of course. But like in your kind of related to your field 510, years from now, what would you love to be doing?

Speaker 2  3:02
I actually love to be doing sitting on something like this for like Fox Sports, or something, you know, talking to the people, nice, maybe analyzing, or whatever it is, just something like that. That would be fun for some fun stuff, probably

Speaker 1  3:15
being like a big time sports trainer, staying with the game, basketball training, people, yeah,

Lonnie Preis  3:21
love it. Love it. All right, let's talk a little bit more about Cleary. Since you've been here and you sounds like you just were here this fall. You've been here. Did you just transfer back here? Just Okay, so you've been here for a little bit, but within this time, who has been most impactful for you, on you, why you why you've been here?

Speaker 1  3:39
I probably have to say, my whole team, bunch of great guys, we laugh a lot, have a lot of fun together, probably have to be the team.

Lonnie Preis  3:48
All right, good. Do you have a jokester on the team? Is there

Unknown Speaker  3:53
somebody who's who's the biggest ring leader?

Lonnie Preis  3:58
All right, yeah, need that. Oh Kylie,

Kylie Walker  4:00
I heard you guys got a video of Amaris pants when he was walking to canes or something, because he has, like, the big parachute pants. Is that like, MC Hammer pants? No, apparently, yeah, they're like, huge. And someone took a video of him walking, and it looks like he's flying to our audience.

Lonnie Preis  4:18
Get that video because that reminds you of MC Hammer back in the day. But Brian, how

Speaker 2  4:22
about you? Well, they kind of saw the spotlight on that. I was gonna say my teammates coming in definitely, because, you know, coming in from a community college I was, I didn't know really anyone. I was unfamiliar with a lot of faces. But, you know, first day I met the team, I kind of knew, you know, I was gonna like these guys. And then we started to grow a bond together. And, you know, ever since, it's a bond that probably can never be broken,

Lonnie Preis  4:40
love it. That is awesome to hear. That's what it's all about. And it's going to be, I tell you, from my experience, coaching at both levels, high school, college, these, these guys. I mean, you got close friends from high school, the brothers at this that this stage of your life, at this age, that bond. They're the ones you're going to probably, you know, stay stay connected to,

Unknown Speaker  4:58
especially out of school. Does you know? You know everyone?

Lonnie Preis  5:02
I agree. Couldn't agree more. Yeah, all right. Last question about Cleary, your favorite, as specific as you can get your favorite spot on this campus. Zay knows already smiling. I would, I would have to say the athletic training room. The athletic why? Why? So you obviously don't want to be hurt. So what about the athletic training

Speaker 2  5:20
I want to be hurt, but I am a I'm very big on recovery, okay, and recovering your body. I think it's one of the main things to you know, performing the best to your ability is recovering your body. And I've had injuries in the past, and you know, you never want to be injured. So not to say I want to be in the training room, but I think the best place for me to recover and get back at it is the training room.

Lonnie Preis  5:39
Shout out to the ATS out there. I love it. I love it. You can't do the same thing. Cougar corner. Cougar corner,

Kylie Walker  5:50
yeah, shout out. Corner.

Lonnie Preis  5:53
Best spot. I love it. I love it. We are getting a variety. Cougar corner, Kylie, you're getting some shots out fire today. I like it. I like it. Okay, we're getting into a different segment, little bit fun. We're doing a little hot take segment, which is kind of your chance to debate with each other and so on. And you guys came up with this topic, Katie, Kevin Durant, or Cade Cunningham, correct. I'll let I'll let you guys share with the audience who is better and who you believe is better, and then convince us. Talk to me. Well, talk to us.

Speaker 2  6:24
Zay over here thinks that Kevin Durant is the better player than Kate Cunningham, and I totally disagree with him. And I'm going to start with one. I am a hardcore pistons fan, so I always represent our hometown, let alone our star player, one of the best players in the league, Detroit, for sure. And you know, you can look at the statistics, and you know, Katie probably has the better statistics, but I could, I mean, not, not this year, I would say, but I'd say overall better statistics, probably because he's been in the league a little longer. I think Kate is an up and coming star. He has the chance to be the face of the NBA, and if you look at the stats through the past, whatever Titan 10 something games, he's a scoring machine. He rebounds the ball, and he's probably one of the passing guards there is, or one of the best passing guards there is in the league, too.

Lonnie Preis  7:14
All right, that's pretty convincing. Zay, what do you got?

Speaker 1  7:17
I just make it quick and easy. Kevin Durant, seven footer, can dribble, can shoot. Seven footer, can do anything. The best score in the NBA, seven footer, since one seven footer, since when? Though he's seven feet, okay, so he grew a couple inches, because on paper, I don't think he's

Lonnie Preis  7:36
even we need a measure. We need, if he wasn't seven feet, would he still be 611 Okay,

Unknown Speaker  7:41
still, the best score in the league. Score, yes,

Speaker 2  7:45
he's, he's not the best scorer. I disagree. I could say, I could sit here and say, k the better.

Unknown Speaker  7:49
Kate is a better score, better than Katie.

Speaker 2  7:53
He rebounds the ball. We'll talk about scoring right now. He scores the ball. Let's talk about score. He scores. Score better he scores the ball. He's, how does he score? I think he's averaging something up to like 27 to 30, somewhere in that range. Katie's averaging like 24 and he's 30 something. So my point exactly. Katie's old head. Can you still average in the same I don't believe it. I don't believe any of the hype. Katie's a

Speaker 1  8:16
great weekend, we can check. But he's always, always just shot

Speaker 2  8:20
14 for 46 for sure. I totally agree, and I don't, I don't. There's a lot of people out there that thought that was a pretty efficient game, besides the shot chart, besides the points, if you look at the rebounds in the assists, he had 12 rebounds, 11 assists. That is an efficient game for your starting guard, especially when your

Speaker 1  8:37
team is hurt. Okay, but back to it, when Katie was playing with curry, my boy, happened, Katie took all the attention away from curry.

Speaker 2  8:48
So, okay, so, so my point is that you wait well, you think Katie took the attention away from curry? Yeah, no. Katie only went there so he could win a ring. They wanted Katie. They won because Kerry. They wanted Katie. They won because of Katie. No, they won because Kurt.

Speaker 1  9:04
When Katie got hurt, what happened? They lost. They played the Raptors. Katie came in for what, five minutes, had 12 points, and got hurt.

Kylie Walker  9:12
I don't love this. I'm throwing in another name. How about Nikola, jokic?

Speaker 2  9:20
When you when he mentioned saying something about he was the best score in the league. I was gonna mention

Unknown Speaker  9:25
jokic is a better score than Katie because she yokich

Kylie Walker  9:29
is the better. He just, he just dropped 55 points

Unknown Speaker  9:31
the other night. He's a better scorer than Katie. 55

Speaker 2  9:34
the other night. Probably 40 the night before, 35 KD, he's a better score, and he hands out. He's averaging a Triple, double, a better score, absolutely.

Lonnie Preis  9:45
My favorite player ever was Dennis Rodman. He'd never scored that much. I could never shoot. He could read. He could rebound, though. Okay, I love this. Take this up with your team. I would love to hear what I'd love to hear report back on what your team thinks, especially your coach, because he loves. Loves to debate, you know, players and so on. This is great. I think the only way to settle this is for the rockets. He's on the rocket snow. Well, we already beat them. Well, I'm talking like, get them both in in the championship. That would be that is great. Great discussion. Guys. Great. All right, now we're moving into a segment called behind the curtain, which means we're gonna get to know you guys even a little bit deeper. So here's a question. First question, kind of two parts, who living or who's passed away, someone who you have not ever met, who would you love to meet? And when you meet them, they walk in the store, what would be the first question you asked them? And it cannot be KD or Kate Perfect,

Speaker 2  10:46
that's a tough one. I would definitely say the most recent person that just passed away, and obviously prayers go out to his family. But Bill Walton one. He was a great radio broadcaster. He knew the game, studied it, loved it, and he was also a great player. And if you look at him in the past, he's been a humble guy. I'm not sure if he ever won an NBA ring.

Lonnie Preis  11:10
I'm not sure, not totally. Was he on the Celtics teams back and I

Speaker 2  11:13
don't know, maybe may or may not have but Bill Walton for sure. Okay, what

Lonnie Preis  11:16
would you ask? He walks in this door where you can ask Bill a question.

Speaker 2  11:20
What would it be? What was the what was, obviously the hardest thing you had to do or sacrifice growing up to get to where you are today? And I guess another question I would ask him is, what did he do growing up in order to get to where he was today? Was it, you know, obviously, when you're working out and you're doing stuff every day, you get tired, you get mentally drained. There's days where you just don't even feel like going or getting up. How do you keep that motivation and how do you stand your feet every day?

Lonnie Preis  11:49
That's great. He was, Did you hear him ever broadcast? He was a huge unique oh my gosh, yeah, for sure. Zay, how about you?

Speaker 1  11:58
I probably go with another one of my favorite players, Michael Jordan. He came in, I'd probably ask him, like his mentality towards the game and like to life, like how he just manages it and everything about it. Love it kind of like pick his mind.

Lonnie Preis  12:13
Yeah, oh, those are some things to tell you for sure. Yeah, two unique conversations. Um, okay. Follow up question to that you can spend two to three hours with each of these guys. You cannot do anything related to basketball. What would you do with

Unknown Speaker  12:30
them? Golf? I knew

Lonnie Preis  12:33
with Jordan that would be, that would be an experience.

Speaker 2  12:36
I like that a lot. If I were to hang out with Bill Walton, it would probably be, I don't know, we probably go to dinner or something, you know, nice dinner talk, you know, in those two or three hours, I'm gonna try and get everything I can out of them. You know, I'll probably write down some stuff just, oh yeah, home with me.

Lonnie Preis  12:52
If you were to take them out, let's say it's your choice of restaurants here. Little shout out to Livingston County around here. Where would you take them?

Speaker 2  12:59
Well, I haven't been in Livingston County, too long. I'm actually from Macomb, but not too far. But one thing that I have been seeing when I drive downtown, I think it's how downtown, how I see the I forgot what it's called, but it's the steakhouse, diamonds.

Lonnie Preis  13:13
Diamonds, diamonds, shout out. Diamonds, be a sponsor. Sponsor us. Diamonds, love it. Love it. That's That's good. That's high end, that he'd be all about it. Okay, next question, little bit more personal on the personal level, who in your life, who's still living, or it could be somebody who's passed away, who is, you know, who's had the biggest impact on you personally, and in what way I

Speaker 1  13:40
probably have to go with my mom and my dad just see how much they sacrifice for me being able to be in a position I am today, and just Yeah, and they always got a smile on their face. I've never seen them angry or sad, yeah.

Lonnie Preis  13:53
So besides the example, obviously, it sounds like tremendous example for you. What? What? What, I guess, what are you trying to replicate in your life that kind of you've learned from them,

Speaker 1  14:04
just when I have kids, just be able to give them a life I had even a better one, even though I had a great life, just be able to do what they did times 10.

Lonnie Preis  14:15
Awesome, awesome. Thanks for sharing that.

Speaker 2  14:17
I would say probably the most impactful person for me was my late grandfather. He passed away my junior, or, I'm sorry, my senior year of high school, or my junior, yeah, sorry, senior year of high school in the fall. You know, he's always been a guy who's been around the game, been that extra voice in my ears. You know, when my mom and dad, I'd come home and, you know, they would tell me stuff I don't want to hear, he would tell me stuff I want to hear. And, you know, tell me what I need to do better, what I'm doing wrong. You know, I look at him as a great example. He played division one basketball back then, and I'll never forget the one thing he told me before he passed away, is never, never forget that one dribble pull up, because that was his game. And, you know, he loved it.

Lonnie Preis  14:56
Love it. So hearing you say he would tell you what you want to hear. Like he would shoot straight with us absolutely, like, if he, if he's, like, all right, Brett, you need

Speaker 2  15:04
to, I need to do this. I need to do this, and I need to do that, and then, you know, he'd probably say it in a in a better tone than my parents would, you know, like I said, He's that extra voice. He was, he was that someone I can vent to who would understand what I'm saying. I do wish he was here today, but I know he's watching them both.

Lonnie Preis  15:21
Yeah, awesome. Well, thank you guys both for sharing that that's that's awesome to hear. All right, we're shifting gears a little bit. This is to a segment we love to call rapid fire. We got how this works. Is this, I'm asking you all questions. It is like the first thing that comes to mind, first thing we're going back and forth. Okay, and we got some good questions here. This will definitely get people to know you, maybe some things you don't even know about yourself. So they will go to you, then back and forth. Here we go. Go to hype song before big game. What's a song? What who you listen to? Or what's a song? It could be an artist.

Speaker 1  15:59
What's his name? Jahien. He's like, an older R B artist.

Lonnie Preis  16:03
Oh yeah, I know. I

Speaker 2  16:04
know that I'm more of the type to keep it low key. I never like, you know, just listen to songs to get really high. I love country, so I'm gonna stick to country. And it would probably be a SAM barber song. Many people would look at me and be like, Wow, that's pretty crazy. But I like to keep it low with Vibe chill.

Lonnie Preis  16:19
Sam Barber, okay, good. Back to you. Your favorite restaurant, favorite restaurant

Unknown Speaker  16:23
all time. Yeah,

Unknown Speaker  16:30
Olive Garden. Oh, love the garlic bread.

Lonnie Preis  16:32
Okay. Do you ever do the soup, salad, all you can eat? Well, I've done it meat.

Speaker 1  16:38
It's a place in Lansing, the best barbecue I've ever had in my life.

Lonnie Preis  16:40
It's just called meats. Meats. Okay, I'm making a note of that next time we're up watching y'all, if you're watching the basketball team in Lansing, go to meet sponsor us. Okay, back to you. Zay, your favorite movie

Unknown Speaker  16:55
of all time, Transformers. Oh,

Lonnie Preis  16:59
like the original, the

Unknown Speaker  17:00
original. Oh, it's a good one. I would say the B

Lonnie Preis  17:02
movie, the B movie, B movie, Okay, interesting. Kylie likes it. Kylie, that's

Kylie Walker  17:07
fire. That's a good one for sure. Great. All

Lonnie Preis  17:10
right, coffee or tea. Coffee, black coffee, straight, butt, straight. Nothing in it, nothing.

Speaker 1  17:16
Wow. Sweet tea. Okay,

Lonnie Preis  17:19
interesting. Interesting. Do you ever drink those on game day?

Speaker 2  17:22
Yeah, it depends. I'm not the biggest coffee guy, but like, you know, in the summer, if I have to work in the morning, I'm definitely

Lonnie Preis  17:29
drinking the coffee. All right, all right. Hidden talent. A hidden talent. I know I asked you about singing before.

Speaker 1  17:37
No, not a singer. I play the piano a little bit. Okay, okay, tickle the

Lonnie Preis  17:43
ivories. Ever

Speaker 2  17:44
since I got here, actually, I've been learning to play the guitar. So I'm hoping to say soon it'll be a special talent, but right now it's gonna stay hidden.

Lonnie Preis  17:51
Well, it ain't hidden. It's not hidden anymore, I guess not. And Kylie, get this, we're bringing a talent show to campus. You guys both just are two volunteers. Mark that down. I'll sign you up right now. I'm just kidding. Well, maybe not. Okay, you're good enough. Yes, your favorite besides basketball, your favorite sport to watch, we'll go to your football for sure.

Speaker 2  18:13
Football, football. I played football my whole career. Leading up, I actually wanted to play college football for a while, and then I decided, you know, sports pretty dangerous.

Speaker 1  18:20
Okay, all right, how about you have to go with football, but college football specifically,

Lonnie Preis  18:25
what's your what's your team? Alabama,

Speaker 2  18:27
Oh, see, okay, I would go with the NFL, lions, lions, for sure.

Lonnie Preis  18:33
Okay, very good favorite.

Kylie Walker  18:35
Hey, wait, no, you got to ask Lonnie who his football team is in the NFL. Football is your team.

Lonnie Preis  18:40
I grew up in Wisconsin, Green Bay, but being here very like it's if the if the lions aren't playing the Packers, I want the lions literally. I love Dan Campbell. I love the whole mindset. I mean, it's, I mean, I'd love, I feel like I could go back and play just hearing him talk. Yeah, so packers lines playing. I got to go packers, but it's fun to root for the Lions. All right. Favorite sandwich,

Speaker 1  19:07
Turkey cheese. Simple,

Lonnie Preis  19:11
nothing else. You got no cheese. You got no mustard. That's dry. That is a dry I'll

Speaker 1  19:17
make a sandwich. I'll go turkey. Turkey pepperoni, oh, some banana peppers, a little bit of lettuce, toast.

Lonnie Preis  19:27
It toasted? Yeah, I've gotten into toasting sandwiches. That's good. Oh, I'm getting hungry.

Speaker 2  19:31
If we're just making a regular sandwich tonight, you know, I'm just doing this just because I'm hungry. I need a quick snack, definitely, a salami

Lonnie Preis  19:39
and cheese. And you all are putting nothing else, just just, you're putting no like mustard, ketchup, Miracle

Speaker 2  19:46
cheese, mustard. Can can dabble, but I'm not the biggest

Unknown Speaker  19:49
fan. I'm gonna just keep it dry. Yeah, well, I

Lonnie Preis  19:51
guess if you have the peppers on there, that'll help out a little bit. Okay, all right. Couple more. Couple more. One word advice for freshmen. If you could give freshmen. One word piece of advice. What would it be?

Speaker 2  20:03
Encouraged? I would tell them to stay encouraged. I would tell them to push through the hard times and stay motivated, you know, through school. And most people here are athletes, so stay encouraged.

Lonnie Preis  20:13
That's 27 words. But encourages, I'm just totally kidding, Brian, I'm totally kidding. I'm totally kidding. Encourage. Zay, what about you?

Speaker 1  20:22
I had to say, positivity. Oh, positivity. I just stay positive through, kind of like what Brian said, stay encouraged. Stay positive through, do everything, the hard work, lots going on. Stay positive.

Lonnie Preis  20:32
That's about 28 that's he's a little bit short, like 22 okay, no, it's a great explanation. All right, three more, weirdest thing you've ever tried to eat. I uh, one

Speaker 1  20:43
time when I was little, I put Sunny D and lucky charms and ate it. Oh, oh, I've

Lonnie Preis  20:49
heard people do water, and I've heard people do water because they ran out of milk, but Sunny D, that is an interesting and a lucky charm. You know when the when the Lucky Charms? You know the color, funky color. Oh, that's interesting.

Speaker 2  21:03
I would definitely say mine is, um, I was in Florida. I think it was frog legs. I think is what it was, not a fan.

Lonnie Preis  21:09
I used to live there. They're kind of where yours kind of like, chewy. Yeah, way too chewy. Yeah. My teeth. Not a fan, yeah. I did the alligator down there and stuff that you can fry. But yeah, frog legs are like, I'm like, No. Biggest pet peeve. Biggest pet peeve,

Unknown Speaker  21:33
come back to me. Okay,

Speaker 1  21:35
probably the people that drive in the left lane on the highway slow

Lonnie Preis  21:40
my wife, like, my wife will get on me something. She's like, put punch it or get over. She's, oh, yeah, that's a good one.

Speaker 2  21:46
I do like that one a lot. Biggest pet peeve for me is probably, you know, I don't know if you've ever seen people in the grocery store, but they, they're in front of you, and they're taking their sweet old time, and they're, you know, I got somewhere to be. But they're just, you know, keep it coming, asking the cashier, registered person, all these type of questions, having a

Lonnie Preis  22:06
conversation, that's my biggest pet peeve. I like the fat you go grocery shopping, for sure.

Speaker 2  22:09
Well, I have to now, unfortunately, I'm not with my mom and my dad anymore.

Lonnie Preis  22:13
Gotta go do it good, Coach Thomas, if you're watching, if you heard these guys sandwiches, I think that'd be some great, you know, pregame or post game meals that you can whip together for them. All right, guys, that was, Oh, I'm sorry. Last thing, one of our best prior favorite questions, describe yourself in three words, three words,

Speaker 1  22:34
laid back, kind careful,

Lonnie Preis  22:40
nice though, those are three words, I think. And we've done like, 12 of these, 15 maybe, I don't think anybody said that. That's awesome. I would

Speaker 2  22:47

and motivated. Love it. Love it. Well, hopefully people through these, I mean, they learn a little bit some fun stuff about you and so on. Hopefully your teammates are making you some sandwiches right now. With what you like, we got some. What you like. We got subway coming up soon. Oh, okay, good, good. You put banana peppers on your Subway sandwiches? Yeah, I do absolutely. Okay. All right. Last segment, I guess you could say, Showtime. Show us what you know. We are expecting no pressure. We are expecting this to be the best segment, Segment competition we've ever seen on this show, because the confidence level was like at another level. When we brought this up, they're like, NBA teams are like, can you get all 3032 I don't even know how many they're 3232 these guys think they're going to go through this, and if they can do this, we will declare them champions. Kylie. We got to watch this closely that they do not repeat any, any, any teams. This is harder than you all think. Just the minute, the minute the hammer drops. Here we go. If you repeat games over, if you take more than three seconds, which I will start, you know, give you a second, but I'll be like one two, so it's really four seconds, but you can't think of in three seconds. Here we go. I'm kind of nervous. I'm nervous for you all, a little nervous, ladies and gentlemen, we're about to enter Showtime with zay and Brian. Zay, we start with you when the hammer drops. Ready Go.

I didn't even, I don't even remember him saying, unless someone came in here and tried to do alphabetically, they, I think they have the states or something memorized alphabetically. And obviously

Kylie Walker  25:18
that was the, yeah, they sung the state song. Yeah.
